What is Summer Learning?

CSLP_2025_OpenBook.png

Summer Learning is a fun way to keep your brain engaged over the summer break.

Joining the Summer Learning Initiative is a positive step for your whole family! Research shows that reading at any age helps our brains, but it's especially important for kids to avoid "summer slide." Summer slide might sound like a fun activity on the playground... however, it's a loss of knowledge children can experience every summer break from school.

While reading is very important, we understand that not everyone learns the same way. So, instead of only having reading as a choice to earn prizes, your child/teen has the option to do a project instead!

We encourage everyone to participate in the learning fun: parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Make Summer Learning a family tradition!

How to Participate:

Kids and Teens:

Registration begins May 31st. Set FOUR (4) reading goals, project goals, or combine a reading goal with a project goal. Also, participate in our weekly events throughout the summer!

Adults:

Beginning on June 1st, come into the library and ask the front desk staff for a punch card!

Punch Cards: For each book you read, receive a punch. Once you have received four punches, turn your card in at the front desk. There will be weekly drawings for $10 Joyful Brew Gift Cards, as well as drawings for three major prizes at the end of the summer. Come to our adult events this summer for an extra punch on your card!
